CLIMATE
Fuerteventura is famed worldwide for its winds. The popularity of this island is highly recognizable by the number of professional windsurfers that use it as their summer training ground. The height of the season is filled with the famous trade winds, called Alisios, it simply blows non-stop.
In the summer it is possible to windsurf every day with a minimum of 16 knots and sometimes reaching a maximum of 50 knots. Despite this even on the strongest days there are manageable beaches for all levels of watersports enthusiasts.
On top of this, every year, between July and August, for more than 30 years, the windsurfing and kitesurfing world cup is taking place on the beach of Sotavento. Every world famous windsurfer has stepped foot on this island at one point or another.
The average temperature is in spring between 24 and 30 degrees and the water between 19 and 21 degrees.
In the spring the recommended wetsuit is of 3/2 mm and in summer a shorty or a thin 2mm wetsuit will do.
